The history of the Tamiya-ryu begins about 450 years ago.

Tamiya is the famous samurai family name. Ryu means style.

Tamiya Nagakatsu was a vassal of Ikeda Terumasa, and participated in the Battle of Sekigahara and the Winter Siege of Osaka.

The Battle of Sekigahara is a battle in 1600, and an American TV drama Shogun also describes the reason why Sekigahara occurred.

The American TV drama Shogun is a little different from the real history, but it is very similar.

The names of the characters are also changed.

Ikeda Terumasa was the lord of the World Heritage-listed Himeji Castle.

Himeji Castle was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993.

Tamiya Nagakatsu is very strong and defeated many strong enemies, which earned him a favor with the first shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu, who told Ikeda that he wanted Tamiya Nagakatsu to be his vassal, and Ikeda agreed. Tokugawa Ieyasu then made Tamiya Nagakatsu a vassal of his son, Tokugawa Yorinobu.

Showing off the techniques of the Tamiya style to the 3rd shogun IEMITSU TOKUGAWA, the Tamiya style became even more famous and a dojo (school) of the Tamiya school was built in 95% of Japan’s castles.

Tamiya also taught the Tamiya style techniques to the shogun family.

Since the samurai technique of the Tamiya school was beautiful and strong, it was called′ beautiful Tamiya and High rank Tamiya′  by Ieyasu Tokugawa, the 1st shogun of the Tokugawa family.

Tamiya school is a samurai technique teacher of Iemitsu Tokugawa, the 3d shogun of Tokugawa family.

Tamiya is a samurai technique teacher for Tokugawa Yoshimune, the 8th shogun of the Tokugawa family’s and a bodyguard for the shogun and his family.

Tokugawa Yoshimune is a very famous ane popular shogun in Japan.

From 1978 to 2002, the shogun’s Japan TV drama “Abarenbo Shogun” with Tokugawa Yoshimune as the main character was broadcast.

It is a Japan TV drama about defeating bad samurai who tormented the common people.

The sword technique that Tokugawa Yoshimune practiced is Tamiya ryu style.

The Shogun is the highest position that can command all the samurai. 

Originally, ninja and samurai were the same.

Ninja was originally a samurai.

kouga ninja is a group of samurai called Kougashu.

Iga Ninja is a group of samurai called Igamono.

There are two groups of ninja, one is called Iga ninja and the other is called Kouga ninja.

Samurai called Ninja were low ranking samurai called Jizamurai.

Samurai called ninja lived in the valley between mountains and spied on other groups, so they come to be called Shinobi no mono.

Hereafter, people called Shinobi no mono were called Ninja.
